YEAR-ROUND FISHING FUN!! |
||||
|
We run fishing trips 12 months of the year! Early year opportunities include fishing for bottom and reef fish in Texas State waters. Red snapper and other reef fish move in closer to shore during the winter months. These trips can be extremely productive and enjoyable and a great elixer for "cabin fever", and with more economical rates due to the short run to the fishing grounds, can be an excellent choice to introduce young anglers to the sport. Beginning in February and extending through early May, we fish the jetties and passes into the Galveston Bay Complex for big black drum as they move in to spawn. This is a catch and release fishery, but we often catch other species which can be retained, like sand or gulf trout and redfish (red drum). If you want to catch these big brawlers we can get it done. We fish with crabs, primarily, and have the tackle and expertise to get the job done. In mid to late June the red snapper seasons opens in Federal waters (past nine miles). As spring turns to summer, pelagics like mahi, king mackeral, cobia (ling), and occassionally wahoo move near the Texas Coast providing one of the best and most diverse fisheries around. We often catch amberjack, barracuda, vermillion and mangrove snapper, triggerfish, and other reef fish while fishing for red snapper. Dolphin (the mammals), loggerhead turtles, flying fish, and numerous other fascinating marine creatures are nearly always sighted, adding to the enjoyment of offshore fishing. As summer gets "serious", the silver king, tarpon, show up around the jetties and inshore near the beach. Big bull redfish and acrobatic, hard fighting blacktip and bull sharks are also plentiful and ready to eat. This fishing will generally continue into October. The first cool fronts of the year signal a change in fish behaviour. One of the most important of these is the fall flounder run. These delicious and hard fighting flatties begin to migrate to deeper water, again, through the jetties and passes leading from the bays to the warmer, deeper water of the Gulf. This is a time to score some fine, light textured groceries! In addition to the flounder, we often catch as many gulf or sand trout as we want to keep and large, delicious golden croaker. So give us a call or shoot us an email. We'll give you an HONEST assessment of the fishing outlook and projected water conditions 12 months of the year. |
